2/28

Today Mr. Rease was absent and we went to another teacher's room for class. We did SEL (social, emotional learning), we talked about "Fences" and gained a better understanding of why Troy was the way he was.

2/25

Today in class we took a test on the "Fences" play we read in class. I did good on the multiple choice questions. and I think I did good on the Short answer portion as well.

2/24

Today in class we talked about rhetorical appeals. Logos is based on logic. Ethos is based on credibility. Pathos is appeals emotion.

2/23

Today in class we learned about arguments. An argument is a n opinion supported by evidence. The three elements of an argument are the speaker, the purpose, and the audience. We also learned about process of elimination using "fences" character summaries.

2/22

Today in class we did work from the college bound vocabulary book. We worked on Lessons 1, 3, and 4. We talked about the differences between nouns, verbs, and adjectives. Then we got into a minor debate about if water is wet or not.

2/17

Today in class we finished watching the movie to "Fences". We also used this time to work on missing assignments. I worked on the questions I missed from Wednesday when I was absent and submitted them. We have a four-day weekend and when we come back on Tuesday we have a test on "Fences".

2/15

I wasn't at school today for personal reasons. I'll check google classroom to see what assignments I missed. I should be back tomorrow!

2/14

Today in class we started with a bell ringer about the differences in the ways black and white people are treated. Some of the industries we discussed were law enforcement, hospitality, media, etc. We then watched a "What Would You Do" video on racism in a restaurant. After we came back from lunch we continued reading "Fences" until the end of class.

2/11

Today in class we finished the benchmark testing. I don't think I did good at all. I probably got a 60 at the most. Hopefully these short answer questions and essay save my grade. My other tests went good though, so I guess that's something.

2/10

Today we started our benchmark assessments. Tomorrow we will be writing the essay portion. I think I'm doing okay so far. I had tests in three classes back to back so I can't wait for this week to be over. I don't know what else to write so... roses are red, violets are blue, I'm going to bed, whoopty do.

2/9

Today in Mr. Reese's class we continued reading "Fences" by August Wilson. I read as Gabriel who was the brother of Troy and has special needs. Tomorrow we start benchmark testing.

2/8 - Characterization Activity

My name is Troy Maxson, and I'm garbage man. Since working in the trash industry, my sense of smell has become my least favorite for what I assume to be obvious reasons. Trash collecting definitely wasn't my ideal line of work, but it's what keeps the bills paid and the family fed. As a black man in America with a record, and a lackluster education what other options do I have? I wanted to be one of those baseball players, I was really good at it too. Nowadays, the only throwing I do is the garbage into the truck.

Today in class we read the play "fences" by August Wilson. We started with an introduction video to it and then analyzed the title which means to keep something out of keep something in. Afterwards, we took notes on the presentation Mr. Reese showed us, and answered some questions. We then began to read the story as a class and I played Bono which is best friend to the main character, Troy Maxson. Below are the notes we took during class.

2/4

Today in class we took a survey about college. Most of my answers aligned with teaching because I want to be a history teacher (not sure if I was supposed to say that on here). Afterwards, we presented our Origin Myth stories and my favorite was Tony's. Then we continued our one pagers which are due monday. I have to finish mine this weekend to put finishing touches. My one pager is on "Birches" by Robert Frost.

Today in class we discussed whether we should be celebrating black history month or black future month. We then read and a poem called "The Black Family Pledge" by Maya Angelou. The poem covered issues such as parenting, appreciation, religion, etc. Afterwards, we talked about ways we can improve our community. Then we continued on our one pagers and I started over because I wanted to do the "birch" story. Attached below is a picture of the annotated poem.

2/2

Today in class we talked about childhood. We started with a bellringer about things that remind us of out childhood years. We then read and analyzed another text by Robert Frost called "Birches". One of the themes we determined was that a good childhood can keep you grounded. Afterwards, we started on out One Pagers.

2/1

Today Mr. Rease was absent and we went to Ms. Fambro's room. We were supposed to work on missing assignments (I didn't have any). So instead, I worked on some spanish work. The lunch made my stomach hurt and I can't wait to go home
