 Today in class we started with a paragraph about receiving advice from a parent. From this we transitioned into analyzing the poem "Mother to Son" by Langston Hughes. In the poem, the Mother was speaking to her son about how life can be difficult but it isn't hard. She also talked about the importance of never giving up. Attached is a picture of the sheet we worked on.

      My name is Troy Maxson, and I'm garbage man. Since working in the trash industry, my sense of smell has become my least favorite for what I assume to be obvious reasons. Trash collecting definitely wasn't my ideal line of work, but it's what keeps the bills paid and the family fed. As a black man in America with a record, and a lackluster education what other options do I have? I wanted to be one of those baseball players, I was really good at it too. Nowadays, the only throwing I do is the garbage into the truck.
